I first went to KAUST through the University of Waterloo’s internship program. The research from those months proved so impactful that I kept working on it during my studies and later returned as a consultant; publishing six research papers and presenting at multiple conferences along the way.
Consultant – Machine Learning
November 2018 – May 2019
- Created novel Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) optimized through genetic algorithms, leading to five published papers
- Collaborated with interdisciplinary teams, taking the lead on AI and data analysis applications
- Taught PhD students to apply ANNs and optimization techniques, and coached the wider team on machine learning concepts
Data Scientist
January 2017 – April 2017
- Built ANN models in Python predicting ignition delay, compression ratio, and octane number, leading to a published research paper
- Co-wrote the proposal that laid the foundation for a collaboration with UC Irvine on AI in combustion
- Implemented ANN and regression models in Matlab as baselines
